Latvian gasoline imports drop 9% in seven months; diesel fuel imports down 1.9%

RIGA, Sep 12, BNS - During the first seven months of 2017, Latvian gasoline imports dropped 9 percent from the first seven months of 2016, while diesel fuel imports declined 1.9 percent year-on-year, the Central Statistical Bureau reported.

In January-July 2017, Latvia imported 165.582 million liters of gasoline and 825,736 tons of diesel fuel.

The value of gasoline imports rose 8.1 percent year-on-year to EUR 62.39 million in the seven months of 2017, and the value of diesel fuel imports grew 26 percent year-on-year to EUR 363.545 million.

Lithuania was the main supplier of gasoline and diesel fuel to Latvia in the seven months of 2017.

In the first seven months of this year, Latvia imported 106.178 million liters of gasoline from Lithuania, accounting for 64.1 percent of all gasoline imports during the period (62.4 percent in the first seven months of 2016), and 55.729 million liters of gasoline or 33.7 percent from Finland. Gasoline imports from Lithuania dropped 6.6 percent year-on-year, while gasoline imports from Finland decreased 13.7 percent compared to the first seven months in 2016.

In the first seven months of this year, Latvia imported 513,305 tons of diesel fuel from Lithuania, which made up 62.2 percent (44.2 percent a year ago) of total diesel fuel imports and was a 37.8 percent increase against the first seven months of last year. Diesel fuel imports from Finland fell 25.3 percent year-on-year to 201,657 tons, making up 24.4 percent of total diesel fuel imports, and diesel fuel imports from Belarus were down to 63,136 tons, or 7.6 percent, which was 12.1 percent less than a year ago.

During the first seven months of this year Latvia also imported 535 tons of fuel oil, down 48 percent from the same period last year. Latvia has been importing fuel oil only from Estonia this year.

During the first seven months of 2016, Latvia imported 182,011 million tons of gasoline, 841,990 tons of diesel fuel and 1,075 tons of fuel oil.
